Sewcialitles 3: Blocks 17 & 18

Catching up slowly but surely…

I’m keeping up with Fat Quarter Shops quilt-along for Sewcialites 3.

Block #17 is designed by Sandy Gervais of Pieces From My Heart.

This one exercised my brain but I trusted the process and it worked!

We have about seven more blocks to go and then we get the finishing instructions.  I’m looking forward to getting this one done.

Next up is Fat Quarters by the Dozen. I have the June 15^th release to sew and I’m really looking forward to it.

FNSI, T-Shirt Quilt Progress and A Blessing Sampler Finish

Last Friday was 2025’s first Friday Night Sew In. I joined Wendy at Sugarlane Designs and friends for an evening of quilting.

I trimmed the blocks for hubby’s t-shirt quilt. Then planned to cut the sashing to attach on Saturday. However, I got started and before I knew it, the center was complete.

I am going to attach a smaller, maybe 3” inner border but can’t decide what color to use. I think the outer border will be 5 inches and I’ll use the same black tonal fabric that I used for the sashing.

I have some time to decide because my friend is helping me with a special smaller block that will go in the outer border. She lives in Florida, and I still need to send her the shirt.

The remainder of the weekend was spent stitching my blessing sampler. I first posted about this here.

I finished yesterday and can hardly wait to get it framed.

SAHRR – Center Block

For those not familiar with the acronym, SAHRR, it means Stay At Home Round Robin. From what I understand, this fun idea came from Gail at Qulting Gail. It started in 2020 when it was deemed unsafe to pass around (round robin) a quilt for people to add to over time. You stay at home, follow weekly prompts given by the SAHRR hosts and add a border each week to your project.

Our prompt the first week is to select a center block. This can be a new block, an orphan block or, in my case, an embroidered piece from years ago. I was inspired by Diann at Little Penguin Quilts. She has used embroidered blocks for SAHRR a few times and her recent post reminded me of one I have in the “unfinished” projects box.

 

This is Bells & Bows, designed by Kaaren Johston. Kaaren used to blog at The Painted Quilt. The blog is still available to read but Kaaren stopped posting in 2016. She leaves the blog active so that followers can have access to her many free patterns.

 

I stitched this a while ago but wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. Kaaren’s pattern provided instructions to finish it into a little quilt. That is what will happen with SAHRR, the borders will just be a surprise each week.

I stitched this using the called-for variegated DMC 115.

I haven’t pulled fabrics for the borders just yet, but I do have something in mind.

This weekend is Friday Night Sew-In (FNSI), hosted by Wendy at Sugarlane Designs. I purchased sashing fabric for the Dad t-shirt quilt a couple of weeks ago. It has been washed, dried, and is ready for starching. I’ll cut the blocks and attach sashing Friday night.

F.N.S.I., Apple Festival and The List

Hello and Happy Monday, my Lovelies!

I hope you had a great weekend.

Wendy, our friend at Sugarlane Designs, hosted Friday Night Sew In and I’m excited to tell you that I finished, YES…finished, a cross stitched piece.

This is Give Thanks by The Proper Stitcher.

I shared my start on this piece a couple of weeks ago. It is stitched on 40 count linen, Chocolate Milk by Fabrics by Steph. I used mostly the called-for floss but did make a couple of substitutions.

As you know, western North Carolina is amid recovery from Hurricane Helene. Our little town decided to go forth with their annual Apple Festival on Saturday.

I didn’t take many photos because we were just enjoying the moment of being with neighbors and celebrating as if nothing had happened a few short weeks ago. So much devastation but these folks are resilient.

We enjoyed everything from all sorts of apple delicacies to jewelry making, local honey and so much more.

So, with all that activity, I didn’t quite accomplish everything on last week’s list.

I did plan the zoom group stitch along. It will be hosted on the GaRon Stitchery Facebook page and my blog. More to come…

I finished Give Thanks, as you can see above.

Unfortunately, I only finished 2 of the 3 blocks for Scrappiness Is Happiness.

F.N.S.I., Finishes, Bee Display 2024 and Slow Sunday Stitching

A good Sunday to you, friends!

I got on a roll with finishing this weekend and it all began during Wendy’s Friday Night Sew In hosted at Sugarlane Designs.

First was Sweet Friendships by The Proper Stitcher.

Then I found a frame in my stash that I thought would work nicely for Liberty House by Brenda Gervais.

Lastly, I finally got around to finishing Uncle Sam by Threadwork Primitives.

Earlier in the week I had finished the last two bee pieces for this year.

Honey Berry by Erica Michaels.

They were added to the bee display.  This is it for this year but I look forward to adding more next year.

Today is Slow Sunday Stitching over at Kathy's Quilts so I will be working on Olga’s Autumn Stocking.

I’ll share my progress in my next post and will also show you the few items I picked up while thrifting and antiquing a couple of weeks ago.

F.N.S.I. and A Start to Finish

Happy Friday Friends!

I am happy to report that my dislocated/relocated finger is going to physical therapy twice a week and so far…so good. I’m still enjoying cross stitching but am at a stand still with quilting right now. It isn’t comfortable to use the rotary cutter for long periods of time. I am getting there.

 

I’m sharing a new cross stitch pattern that I started on National Friendship Day to join in on the hashtag #SweetFriendshipsSAL hosted by my friend @fancystitcher on Instagram. 

We started Sweet Friendships on August 4^th and I put the last stitch in last night, Thursday, August 15^th.

Threads:  My own conversion. I’m happy to email this to anyone who is interested.

Stitched:  2 threads of floss over 2 linen threads

The fabric is a really pretty green.

F.N.S.I. and Weekend Recap

Good day, my friends.

The third Friday of the month came quite quickly, in my opinion. But the good thing about that is I got to participate in Wendy’s Friday Night Sew-In.

I had a finish on Honey Bee Basket by Primrose Cottage Stitches. 

It was an easy and quick stitch. You will find the details on fabric and floss in my previous post here.

I have a finishing piece in mind and hope to get to it this weekend.

Friday night was also a baking night. Hubby asked for a blueberry cobbler, and who am I to say no to that?

I tried a new recipe from Tastes Better from Scratch and we think it is the best one yet!

Saturday was supposed to be a sewing day, but we needed to go to Asheville for a few things. We parked near a veterinary clinic while running errands.

This is the outside of the clinic. Isn’t this a fun wall?

We had a little rain on Sunday and my hydrangeas loved it!

The little lime hydrangea is just beginning to bloom.

The others are much further along.

I had shared in a previous post that I was participating in a stitch along on IG from May 21^st until July 2^nd. The hashtag is #ItBeeTuesdaySAL, hosted by Christi @javagirlstitches and Ana @anaroat1. We posted progress on our bee projects on Tuesdays and tagged them. They had a give away for the participants and I won one of the gifts.

It is a collection of finishing items, a needle minder and floss keeper by Souleful Creations.

I’m sure you will see some of these items in the upcoming bee display.
