Farm Girl Friday Blocks on a Monday

Farm Girl Fridays is a fun sew-along hosted by Lori of Bee in My Bonnet.  Her book Farm Girl Vintage is chock full of adorable blocks that can be arranged in several different quilt settings.

I already got behind on my blocks but I spent the weekend getting caught up.

I expected to have the Sailor’s quilt back from the long-armer…but not yet.  Hoping it comes in the next day or so because I leave for San Diego on Friday and need to bind and label it before then.  The crystal ball in my sewing room tells me that I am likely to get behind on my Farm Girl Friday blocks again.  That is OK, I am having a great time with them.  Super cute blocks and I am learning some new techniques.

Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge Progress and A Comfort Quilt

H2H Charity Quilt Challenge is hosted by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  Sarah is so generous with her talent and time.  Check out her blog to read about all of her charitable efforts.

This is the second quilt I am donating to the H2H Challenge this year.  I’m calling it Summer Sampler.  I love the happy fabrics.

My plan was to make a third quilt for the challenge but as it turns out, I have a close family member undergoing chemo and radiation treatment for lung cancer.  So, my friend and I teamed up to make him a comfort quilt.

Very simple but oh so comfy!

Farm Girl Fridays - Week #1

Farm Girl Vintage is a new quilt book by Lori Holt from Bee in My Bonnet.  All of the block patterns in the book are things you would find on a farm.  Lori gives you block patterns and then several mix and match settings so you can design your own quilt.  Lori’s motto is “You are the boss of your own quilt!”

She is hosting a sew-along to promote the new book.  Beginning today, she will post each Friday which block or blocks to sew from her book.  Click here for more details.

The blocks are supposed to be scrappy which is something that I struggle with…I tend to be too “matchy.”

This week’s block is Apron Strings.

I pulled the 12 different fabrics needed and was not feeling too confident about what I was doing.

I decided after getting the block together that it wasn’t so bad after all.

I probably won’t always post my Farm Girl Fridays update on the appropriate day of the week since I have a day job.  I just happened to be off today because we have family in town to attend my daughter’s commencement ceremony tomorrow.  She is graduating with her associate’s degree in accounting.  Doesn't it seem just like yesterday she was graduating from high school?  We could not be more proud of her and the hard work she puts into everything she does.

Sailor’s Quilt Top

This weekend was very productive.  I was able to get my sailor’s quilt top together.

It needs a lot of trimming and a bit of pressing but I am very happy with it.

H2H Progress Report and A Sailor's Quilt

In my last post (a while ago) I shared about Sarah’s Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge. In that post I mentioned that two of my donations would be familiar to you.

This is the first one…remember Goodnight Irene? 

Well, it came back from the long-arm quilter with cute little swirlies. I am in the process of making the binding and once it is finished, it will go to Happy Chemo.

My Navy son and his shipmates will be leaving San Diego for Japan in May.  He wanted a quilt for his ship’s rack so, of course, I’m on it!

I machine embroidered blocks with a nautical theme.  There will be 3 blocks each of 7 different designs.   The racks are so small that I only need 21 blocks, sashing and a small border to make a quilt.

Each block will be sashed in yellow then bordered by white anchors on navy background.

I’ll share more about the fabric and the designs when it is finished.

It doesn’t look like our son will be able to come home before he deploys so my daughter and I will personally deliver the quilt to him.  Flights and hotel are booked.  We will spend just over a week in San Diego and be on the pier when the ship leaves the dock!  I am crying now, can’t imagine what that day will be like but I am so very proud of him.  I’m also grateful that he is doing something that he enjoys.

Between these two projects and my day job, the screen door is surely slammin’.

Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge

I discovered a new charity opportunity while reading Val’s and Tanya’s blogs.  I don’t know why I haven’t heard of Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge before because this is its 5^th year.  This worthy cause is coordinated by Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

In reading about past challenges and looking at how many quilters have participated, I’ve learned this really is quite an undertaking to pull together. Sarah seems very organized which is what it takes for such an effort.

Three charities will benefit from donated quilts during this year’s challenge.  I’ll be donating to two of them.  The first is Happy Chemo and the second is Layers of Hope – Quilting 911.  You can read all about the charities and the challenge by visiting Sarah here.  You can also sign up there if you decide to join us.  Please tell her that you heard about H2H on my blog if you decide to participate.

I’ll be sharing throughout the challenge about the quilts I’m donating.  Two are very familiar to you J

Blogger Issues

It seems that I have three separate issues with Blogger.

1)    I schedule posts to publish on a specific date and time, they do not.  I have to log in and physically click the “Publish” button. 

2)  Some followers are not allowed to leave a comment on my post.  They type the comment but it doesn’t publish.  In my research, I came across this problem in a few different places but those bloggers have their blog linked to Google Connect, I do not.

3)  I do not consistently receive my email notifications when followers leave a comment.  Therefore, I am constantly checking my blog to make sure I do not miss anything from those who are actually able to leave a comment. 

I sent my issues to Blogger, along with screen shots of my settings…waiting for a response.

All of this to say, I apologize if you are one of those followers that is not able to leave a comment.  I also apologize if it takes me a little longer to reply to your comment, if you were able to leave one.

Hoping this is corrected sooner rather than later.  Otherwise, I’ll be looking for a different platform.
