2017 That’s a Wrap

Happy New Year!!!

From reading some of my favorite blogs today I see that many of you are starting off 2018 with new goals and resolutions.  In my usual fashion, I’m still catching up J

My last post was September 1st (yikes!)  Our camping and traveling adventures didn’t allow much time for creativity.  I’m not complaining!  However, I thought I should pick up where I left off and show you what I did accomplish.

A few new projects…

This is a new tote for our Airstream.  I used Stephanie Dunphy’s pattern Miss June.  You can read about this project here.

When we bought our Airstream we also joined the Wally Byam Caravan Club (WBCCI).  This organization issues big red numbers that should be placed on the RV.  Well, I just do not have the heart to put stickers on Arya yet so I made this banner to place outside the camper when we are attending club events.  Yep…I’m a rule breaker and let me tell you, some of the die hards would be happy to kick us out of the club…LOL.

Another new project was this Saku Hat from Olga Buraya-Kefelian olgajazzy.com. It is a slouch hat meant to be worn without rolling up the front.  However, my gauge was off and it ended up too big but my daughter likes it anyway.  I purchased enough yarn to make two so I’ll be sure to shorten the next one.

How did I do on my 17 UFOs in 2017?

Ehhh…

I either completed or made progress on 9 of the 17 selected UFOs.  Here are the results that I haven’t shared with you already.

Finish the 2009 Saturday Sampler, well it is a flimsy waiting to go to the long arm quilter.

Finish the Swilly scarf.

Pieced three more Farm Girl Vintage blocks with 9 left.

And for the new BOM progress…

Here is July’s A Quilting Life Mystery Block of the Month

I still have to finish piecing 5 more blocks.

Lastly, these are the completed basket blocks from the Fat Quarter Shop’s Sew Sampler Box.  I have to complete December’s block to be current with this project.

(NOT a favorite!)

That is it in a nutshell for 2017.

My husband had total shoulder replacement surgery on December 28th so we are pretty much grounded for a bit.  We took the camper out over the Christmas holiday but she is tucked away for a few months, not only because of hubby’s procedure but it is nearly impossible to get a campsite in Florida during the winter months.

Please accept my apology for such a long and photo heavy post but I had some catching up to do.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and quilty 2018!!!

June OMG and UFOs

June is going to be a very busy month for me professionally and creatively.

I will be traveling quite a bit for work so that means I am going to have to be super focused while in the sewing room.

My One Monthly Goal for June is to turn these blocks into a flimsy.

This was a Saturday Sampler project at our local quilt shop back in….2009!  We used Marti Michell templates to create a different block each month.  These have been sitting in a pizza box since December of that year.  Guess it's time...

This project is also on my list for 17 UFO’s in 2017.

My UFO progress for May was a success.  I completed two more Farm Girl blocks from Lori Holt's Farm Girl Vintage book.

 Peas and Carrots

Postage Stamp

I also finished the knitting project from Michelle Hunter's Building Blocks book.

The table runners are in their flimsy stage but now I can't decide if they will stay table runners or if I will sew them together for a tablecloth and put it in Arya the Airstream.

So I think I will "table" (sorry!) this one until July.

In addition to the Saturday Sampler, my June UFO goals are to complete three Farm Girl blocks, finish the Swilly scarf...

Sorry for the bad photo...no sun today.

...and make progress on the Asanagi Wrap.

I'm linking up at Elm Street Quilts for the June OMG and pomegranate and chintz for 17 UFOs in 2017.

Wish me luck!!

OMG Finish – May 2017

Just under the wire!

I am pleased to share my finished knitting project from Michelle Hunter’s Building Blocks book.  I have mentioned before that this book uses 12 different blocks to teach knitting techniques.  I was in such a hurry to finish before tonight’s OMG deadline that I didn’t photograph block 12 which was a lesson in advanced decreases.  Maybe you can spot it below.  Check out the third block in the third row from the top.

This was my One Monthly Goal for May and it has been accomplished.

Visit Patty at Elm Street Quilts to see what others accomplished this month.

17 UFOs in 2017 and OMG – May Goal

Hard to believe it is already May 1st…Happy May Day 😊

I’m pleased to say that I am making progress on my UFO busting.

You can see my finished Farm Girl blocks by clicking here.

I also completed two more Building Blocks from Michelle Hunter’s book.

 #10 was a lesson in the Slip-Slip-Knit (SSK) stitch

#11 was a lesson in the Make One stitch

#12 and final block is underway.
I’m learning Advanced Decreases in this lesson.

Next will be to ‘block’ each piece and then assemble them into a small afghan.  Sounds like a good project for my May OMG goal, so it is!

In addition to finishing this UFO, I’ll complete two more Farm Girl blocks and get back to the two table runners I missed in April.

Visit Patty at Elm Street Quilts to see what goals others have set for May and don’t forget Meredithe at pomegranate and chintz for 17 UFOs in 2017.

Have a great week!

17 UFOs in 2017 – February Commitments

I am enjoying the various sew-alongs that I am participating in this year.  I achieved all of my goals for last month and made great progress on some old projects.  Sure hope I can keep it going…

I’m so grateful that Meredithe and Anne are hosting 17 UFOs in 2017 because it has encouraged me to address my long list of unfinished projects and make a plan for getting them done….or at least make some progress on them.

You can see my January progress here.

My commitments for February are:

~~~ Building Blocks – numbers 8, 9 and 10 ~~~
~~~ Complete two blocks from Lori Holt’s Farm Girl Vintage book ~~~

~~~ Make my birdie stitches blocks into mini quilts ~~~
This is also my February OMG
It is a short month so I should keep my list short, too J
Have a wonderful weekend!
17 UFOs in 2017
Good day, my friends.  As I mentioned yesterday, I am on mission to bust some UFOs in 2017.  Not only am I participating in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal, I am also joining Meredithe’s 17 UFOs in 2017 Challenge at pomegranate and chintz.
The reason I love this challenge is because the participants are encouraged to at least make PROGRESS on their projects…no pressure to FINISH.  In my opinion, if you are making progress then a finish is inevitable.  Unless you fall out of love with the project.  I have one of those UFOs that I am not sure I love enough to keep it going…we shall see.
Here is my list for the entire year:
1.
Mini Valentine Quilt (also my January OMG)
2.
Butterfly Trails Label (I don’t think quilts are complete until they are labeled…why do I have such an issue with this?)
3.
Willow Weave Label
4.
Deck-Ade the Halls Label
5.
Building Blocks – finish knitting and assemble into an afghan
6.
Birdie Stitches – stitch in the ditch and make each block a mini quilt to be displayed monthly
7.
Summer Table Runner – quilt and bind
8.
Farm Girl Vintage Blocks – finish all blocks then decide which ones go into a quilt and which will be potholders J
9.
Swilly Scarf – knitting
10.
Asanagi Wrap – knitting
11.
2009 (yep, it’s that old) Saturday Sampler
12.
2016 Row by Row – doing this one before finishing 2015 because I love the Home Sweet Home theme
13.
2015 Row by Row
14.
2009 (what was it about that year?) – Thimbleberries 3s Company Quilt
15.
Sewing Machine Cover – I don’t love piping!
16.
Halloween Baltimore Quilt – I’m not sure I love this one…it may get donated
17.
Christmas Stockings – I machine embroidered names on the cuffs but now I want to add embroidery to the boots
My January nominees for 17 UFOs in 2017 are:
    ~~~ Mini Valentine Quilt~~~

        ~~~All Quilt Labels~~~
 Deck-Ade the Halls
    Butterfly Trails
        Willow Weave
~~~Building Blocks - numbers 5, 6 and 7  ~~~

Just because I am busting UFOs this year doesn’t mean I won’t start something new… I’m sure that I will but the UFOs take priority.

Are you joining any challenges, BOMs or other sew-alongs this year?  If so, let me know and I’ll follow your progress.  We can encourage each other!

Enjoy your day J

Just a Thing or Two

As I was editing last weekend’s photos, I realized that I have been a little productive in the sewing room.

My friend’s church has a couple of ladies that take mission trips to Haiti, Dominican Republic and Honduras.  They deliver dresses to girls in orphanages there.  Each Monday night members and non-members of the church gather to make these simple dresses.  I have participated a few times.

Over the last few months I contributed 13 dresses.

All of the materials come from donations.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Speaking of donations…  a couple more helmet liners were donated to Forgotten Soldiers Outreach.
These were sent to me from Pat in New Jersey.  She is a friend of Selina’s who, like Selina, has contributed helmet liners the last two or three years.  Selina’s package is somewhere in post office land.  She has her local postmaster searching for them.  Between the three of us, we have completed 7 helmet liners this year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My sister visited last month so we could celebrate my Mom’s 73rd birthday.

As is our tradition, we went to the Mount Dora Craft Fair.  It is pretty much the same year after year.  You can read about a previous visit here.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I cut fabric for two laptop cases.  My daughter’s college roommate asked for one and my daughter decided hers needs to be replaced.
I was supposed to finish these last weekend using my early birthday present...thank you SWEEEET HUBBY!
However, there was a distraction…a nice distraction.  I’ll share about that in a later post.
Hoping to make the laptop cases by Friday as I’m leaving for Old Town Alexandria on Saturday for 9 days.  I’ll be working there all of next week.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It won’t be all work and no play, though.  Next Sunday morning, and the following, I’ll be taking a class at Fibre Space.  I shared my first visit with them here.  They sent me the yarn, pre-wound, in advance so I could make the swatch.

We will be learning how to make this...

Photo from Google Search

The pattern is Asanagi Wrap by Olga Buraya-Kefeliar.  You can find it on Ravelry.  The yarn is from Woolfolk Tynd, 100% Ovis 21 ultimate merino – whatever that means.  I’ll ask for an explanation when I get to class.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope everyone exercised their right and voted today.  I did my part J
Hugs!
