Did I Sew? And A Fair...

Hello, Dear Friends!

I mentioned on Friday that I would be attached to my sewing machine during the weekend. And I was...just not working on the things I thought I would be. I may have mentioned before that my Mom purchased a townhouse recently. She wants to use draperies she already has for the new place. They needed some hemming so that is what we did. I will share photos once they are laundered and hung.

It is fair season in the mountains. Last year, I got up enough courage to enter a cross stitch piece in the crafts exhibit and earned a third place ribbon.

Red Bird Sampler by With Thy Needle and Thread

This year, my family encouraged me to enter a quilt. My daughter selected the one she thought I should enter. It was Flea Market Flowers by Lori Holt.

Hubby and I went to the fair's exhibit hall where we found my quilt hanging SIDEWAYS! Apparently, men on a scissor lift were hanging the quilts and no one was providing guidance. They were draping the quilts over a cable and attaching them with clothes pins. You can see in the photo below that the clothes pins are on the left side...I rotated the phot0 so it would show properly.
We found the first place quilt...

Not my quilt.  Exhibitor AB.
I missed getting a photo of the third place quilt. It was cute, made up of bird blocks. And we couldn't find the second place quilt for the longest time.

Finally, my husband stood at just the right angle to find the red ribbon attached to mine.

I was  excited to earn a ribbon at the county fair. But I think I'll try entering one of the regional fairs next year where they publish the judging criteria.

I hope you had a nice weekend and wishing you the best for the week ahead.

I'm linking up to Melva's Sew & Tell

See you soon,

Oh how exciting, Jeanna! Congratulations on your winnings at the fair. Your entries are beautiful and I am so happy for you. Oh goodness, I guess the fellas were in a hurry and did not pay attention to the design when the quilt was hung; I bet you were a little flustered until you saw the ribbon. Have a lovely week.

Congratulations! At least the judges judged from the right angle. x

I have some sheets that have tags (Top/Side/Bottom) on them. LOL maybe for that exhibit it would have been a good idea.

Oh my gosh, second place is amazing! (I think it's much prettier than the 1st place quilt) Cheers and applause! The cross stitch sampler is beautiful. You do really nice work!

Congratulations on the ribbon! County fairs can be difficult and I have heard some nightmare stories of how quilts were handled at one in New Mexico. Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell!

Congratulations on your ribbon! That is always a good feeling. That’s funny that you couldn’t find the second place quilt, and it was yours!

Congratulations on your ribbon for that gorgeous quilt, Jeanna! It is well deserved. The judges must have been looking at it in the right direction! 🥰

Congratulations on your fair ribbons! That is a big deal! Twice at the fair, the back of my quilt was shown. . .how funny was that? The first time, it was a two sided quilt so I guess, the hanger uppers thought the back was more interesting than the front. The other time, it was a pieced back with the front a two fabric appliqué.

How lovely to have your quilt win a red ribbon!!
I hope you got your Mom's drapes hemmed. Boring work, no doubt, but necessary.

Your daughter picked a good one. Entering a regional fair where the judging criteria are published sounds smart, so you'd know what they're looking for. Congrats on the ribbon, Jeanna.

Your quilt work is so lovely. Congratulations on your ribbon. I do wish I had the patience for quilting & sewing. You asked how I overwinter my geraniums. In the past I have put them in a brown paper bag in the basement, I have just left them in the garage, sometimes in the spring they will sprout. Not much luck with either it seems to be hit or miss. What I have done for the last year, and this year is to take a cutting off of the plant and root it in water, plant it in the spring. I currently have one started in soil, and 2 in water rooting. That works best for me.

Thank you so much, Ivy!

Thank you, Granny Marigold. I did finish Mom's drapes but I was so nervous. I took my time and was happy with the result.

Thank you, Diana. I was surprised the county fair didn't publish judging criteria nor any requirements. The only thing they wanted to know was the size. Anyway, I left quite pleased with my ribbon.

Thank you, Faith. My geraniums are looking pretty pathetic. I'm not sure they will be worth saving but I may give it a try.

Fabulous quilt, Jeanna! Yours should've been first!!! I'm glad you got a ribbon. Sorry they hung it sideways!?! That's kind of crazy.
