Happy Friday and May Day, Friends. Are you dancing around the maypole today?
Here we are at the beginning of May already. This year is passing by quickly. I still need to put away Easter décor and get out the “May” pieces.
Before looking ahead, let’s
see what I accomplished in April. I had
two starts and finishes…
Patriotic Pears Blue
Patriotic Pears Red
I had two new starts…
Summer Stamp by Melisa at
Pinker n Punkin’ Quilting and Stitching
This week’s stamp is
Summer Harvest. Melisa added straight lines to the carrot to give it more definition and also french knots to the strawberry to act as seeds. I may still include those at some point.
Patriotic Pears Red, White and Blue (pathetic start)
I touched one WIP…
Salute to Abigail
All of those projects totaled 3,643 stitches in April.
Cross Stitch plans for May:
- Finish stitching the last Patriotic Pear and fully finishing all three.
- Finish stitching Salute to Abigail.
- Continue stitching along
with Melisa at Pinker n Punkin’ on the Summer Stamp. This has turned into my
Tuesday evening stitching.
- Get back to stitching
American Sampler by Crocette a gogo.
- Start Happy Day by Plum
Street Samplers.
Happy Day will be stitched on 36 count linen by Fiber on a Whim in the color Silver Fox and using the called-for floss. I am stitching this with Christi of Java Girl Stitches on YouTube and Instagram.
Here are some nature photos from this week…
Mama, Daddy and babies resting in the shade at the lake.
Cardinal waiting for his turn at the feeder.
Rose-breasted Grosbeak on the feeder. He wouldn’t turn around so I could photograph his vibrant red chest.
My rhododendrons are in full bloom.Fat Quarter Shop releases another Sewcialites 3 block, as well as a Fat Quarters by the Dozen block today. Hopefully, I will get those sewn this weekend and share them on Monday. The lake is having their annual plant sale on Saturday morning and I plan to attend. That may lead me down a gardening path…we shall see.
Enjoy the weekend ahead and I’ll see you soon.

Your rhododendrons sure have beautiful vibrant blooms! Great progress this month on your cross stitch. More than 3500 stitches taken. . .WOW! I'm still intrigued with your pear project. Those are going to be great finishes!
Great finishes. And your photos are absolutely stunning.
Beautiful blooms in your yard. Grosbeaks-they are a pretty bird, we used to have several in the yard and now we are lucky if we see his presence a few times a season. We bought new sunflower seeds yesterday, can't wait to fill the feeder. Happy stitching on those cute projects.
You're doing great keeping up with the Summer sampler, Jeanna! Are you stitching that on linen? I still haven't tried anything but Aida, but from your photo, it looks like I could manage linen now. 😊 Spring looks beautiful at your place! Love the baby geese - we should be seeing them at the golf course here now, too.
April was a busy month for you Jeanna. I love seeing all of your patriotic stitching. Did you say earlier that you were going to have a patriotic tree for the year? Your Summer SAL is looking beautiful. Thank you so much for stitching along with me. It is so exciting to see your progress. Oh those baby geese- so cute. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs.
You got a lot done the in the month of April! Your flowers are gorgeous. I hope you find something good at the plant sale!
Beautiful stitcheries, Jeanna! I love the Pears. Melisa's summer stitchery is so cute. Beautiful rhododendrons. We used to have them in Norway, I haven't seen them here (maybe due to the climate). I love watching birds. Great photos and those geese babies are too cute.
Oh Good! A plant sale. I'd like to come along with you.
You made good progress in April. Great bird photographs, always nice to see birds that we don't have. xx
Great progress on your projects. I love your birdies photos. Those rhododendrons!! We had azaleas, rhododendrons' cousins, in south Texas, but we haven't had any luck with them in north Texas. A plant sale sounds fun!
Happy Friday and happy May Day indeed — there’s something very refreshing about stepping into May, like the year suddenly starts to bloom along with the gardens 🌿
Your mention of dancing around the maypole brings such a traditional, joyful image to mind, even if it’s just in spirit. And I completely relate to that seasonal “switching over” feeling — putting away Easter décor and bringing out the May pieces always feels like a small reset of the home and rhythm of life.
It also fits so well with the idea of May Day, which is all about renewal, lightness, and welcoming warmer days. And yes… time really does seem to move faster every year once spring arrives.
