is keeping us motivated to finish our Lori Holt Farm Girl Vintage blocks. She selects two blocks each month for us to finish piecing.
March’s blocks were the Old Barn and the Pears. Since I had already made the pear block I
chose to make Old Glory in its place.
When I first started Lori Holt’s sew-along last
year, I chose to make the 6 ½” version of these blocks. They are a challenge for me as there are so
many small pieces. My blocks are not
finishing a consistent 6 ½”. As a matter
of fact, they aren’t finishing a consistent ANY size. I imagine that I can come up with enough that
will work for a wall hanging or table topper and the rest will make cute
potholders….

It is always good to have motivation for a project. If I did more "quilt alongs" I would probably finish a lot more quilts.
Oh Jeanna I have trouble with consistency in small blocks too! I think it helps to sew with a scant quarter inch, but even so it doesn't always help when pieces are so small. Your barn is so dang cute! Love the red!
Sounds like we both have similar problems with consistent block sizes this morning! I love your flag -- the anchors in the one stripe print are perfect! :)
I love your blocks, especially the fabrics you chose. I have only made the one quilt I am working on, but in my basic class learning different blocks I had a consistency issue for sure. They were 6 inch blocks, which I decided I will never make blocks that small again unless it's for Crazy Quilts.

Oh mine aren't consistent either--just too many seams in them all for me; I am making what i have done so far into a Christmas table topper--and mooooving on lol hugs, Julierose

Very cute. The red barn is really fun. You might be surprised at how well they fit together in the end.
Making sure all the different segments are the correct size helps me make my blocks turn out pretty consistent.. What do think was going on?
Beautiful Blocks! Try starch pressing your finished blocks. Amazing how much more it flattens those seams & enlarges the blocks.
Maybe you can trim the blocks a little and get them to a close to same size block.

they are looking great! mine are a little off too but I think in the end it will all work out.
They are both cute blocks, you could always border them and then trim the bordered blocks at a consistent size. Alternate 2 colors so it's less obvious that the borders are different widths on some blocks. Just a thought I am using on a current unnamed project :)
GOod for you to persevere on ...as you know how I am with little blocks. Your color choices are wonderful and it is going to make an adorable quilt.
got to find some pear fabric so I can make it , have already done the other.
Love you blocks, I tend to get a disappearing 1/4 inch when I make blocks, I have gotten to the point where I just trim them all the same size when I'm done unless it takes too much away from the block design.
