Help, please

Update:  Thank you for your comments and guidance.  I have made a decision (& purchase) and will share soon. Thank you again for stopping by and your help!
Happy Holidays my friends.

It has been quite a while since I’ve posted and I have missed blogland something awful.  What little time I have had to check in with my quilty, crafty friends has been spent on Instagram.  I look forward to returning soon and sharing the secret sewing I’ve been up to.

For now, I need your help.  I am looking for a small, simple, economical but reliable sewing machine that I can easily take to classes.  I’ve done a little online research at Janome, Bernina, Brother and the result is that I am completely overwhelmed.  I would appreciate it if you have any advice to offer.

Wishing you all a very happy and blessed holiday season.

Wish I know which ones. I kind of have my eye on the new Bernina with the embroidery module. It's the more economical model they released not too long ago.

Jeanna, I am a Bernina girl through and through, but I have an older model which I think is better than the ones they're making now. Do you have a Pfaff dealer anywhere handy?
Check out the Pfaff Passport. It's lightweight, has a number of stitches and is all-round great in every way. A number of the gals in my Guild have bought them and LOVE them. It sells for around $500. here, may be a little less in the USA. Don't know if that fits your budget or not.. worth checking into...

I've purchased 2 little Janomes...a mechanical, basic sewing machine for my daughter and an electronic one for myself. We both love them. I can't remember the model of my daughter's but is was inexpensive. Mine little one is a 3160 QDC. Good luck in your hunt.

So good to hear from you! I have thought about you often...:) Unfortunatley I have no advice on a sewing machine, but I do wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas! Can't wait to see what you have been sewing!

Hugs, Vicky

Missing your postings! I only have my Viking set up for home; but I do have a featherweight with case that I would be willing to part with. hugs, Julierose

I have had three Janome machines. One I gave to my niece, the other two I still use regularly. I have been very happy with all of them.
Ken's sewing center has a good range and free shipping plus a 30 day return policy http://www.kenssewingcenter.com/janome-sewing-machines-c-210_216.html
You can call and talk to someone to find out more than is on the website. I was happy with the service I got on the one I bought there.

Good to hear from you Jenna! A couple of years ago I spent a great deal of time researching machines... and was so overwhelmed with the information that I just gave up and made do with the Kenmore I already owned... lol! One important thing to consider is "how/who will repair my machine when it malfunctions?" Because it's a fact that the more features (especially computerized) the more difficult it will be to fix. A friend of mine went 2 months without their machine because they had to pack it up and ship to the dealer for repair... just my thoughts... let us know what you decide on! :-)

Jeanna, So glad to see you back in blogville. I sure do know how life can get away from us sometimes. I have a small Janome which I cart to sewing circle and classes it's light weight and gets the job done. If you have a dealer or repair shop near you look for a good used, well serviced model so that you don't have to spend a lot for a machine you won't be using every day. My everyday machine is a Janome 6600 which I adore but nothing can beat a Bernina an dI'll never give up my 25 year old Bernie. I don't haul her around any more because she weighs a ton!

Hello! So good to hear from you. I have wondered about you and even asked Stephanie if she had heard from you.
Sorry, but I am not much help when it comes to sewing, and really not much help in knowing about a machine. :)
I pray you get some answers.

Merry Christmas,
Debbie

I'm guessing you found what you were looking for, Jeanna from your IG post. Happy Sewing and thanks for letting us know you're still around!
Cheers!

So many people have the old Singer Featherweight machines that they take to class. If all you are doing is straight stitching when you go to class, one of these would suffice. And they are lightweight and small in size.

Bernina has a small one for classes that I hear is really great. They have it on sale over the holidays, but I'm sure all prices are negotiable. Have fun with the research.

You can never go wrong with a Bernina and they have a nice small one for a reasonable price.
