Continuing from yesterday's post, here is a recap of another day in Rome.
Tuesday, September 2nd
Most of this day was spent in Vatican City
Saint Peter's Basilica
Fountains of St. Peter's Square
Vatican Obelisk
The Holy Door which is open only during Jubilee.
2025 is a Jubilee year.
Our private tour took us by elevator to inside the dome where we could
look down into the basilica.
After walking around the inside of the dome, we
climbed the additional 330 steps to the very top
of St. Peter's Dome.
Some places were very narrow and steep.
We made it! It was raining but we still had
great views of Rome from the top.
St. Peter's Square
After the climb we descended and entered St. Peter's
Basilica through the Holy Door.
I took so many photos inside the basilica but can't possibly
share them all here.
Pieta' by Michelangelo

St. Peter's Baldachin
Situated directly under the dome and above St. Peter's
tomb underneath.
After spending a couple of hours walking around the inside,
we were taken down into the tombs.

Before leaving, I had to mail postcards from
Vatican City.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes for them to arrive
the US, if ever.

We hope to tour the Vatican Museum on a future visit.
We mostly walked everywhere we went.
We were hungry so after exiting Vatican City,
we had a nice lunch at a place near our hotel.
We spent the remainder of the day exploring
Palazzo Farnese and other parts of the city.
Santa Brigida
Santa Maria in Campitelli
Random ruins throughout the city
Victor Emmanuel II Monument
Dinner
Nighttime in Palazzo del Biscione
Artist at work
Now you understand why I said in the previous post that I did very little stitching. We were on the go constantly but it was exhilarating.
More tomorrow...

Dear Jeanna, what a beautiful, magical place. Your photos are truly captivating. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ your trip.
Thanks for sharing your trip. I read both posts this morning. The food looked amazing. And all your photos really captured the city.
I zoomed in on many of these. I know nothing about St Peter's Basilica so I read a little on Wikipedia, and I can see there is a lot to learn. It's all so beautiful and meaningful. The Holy Door looks heavy! The Dome is magnificent. Do the "random ruins" have any kinds of signs posted about what they are, or are there just constant digs going on there? The food looks so good. I guess you really got your steps in! Your nighttime photos look so romantic.
You would be to exhausted to stitch after all that walking!! Amazing sites.
I love seeing your pictures. Thank you so much for posting them. It looks like such a great trip.
How overwhelming it must have been. So much to see....you'd really need 3 or 4 days!!! To be up in the Dome looking down into the basilica. Wow!!
Great to be there in a Holy Year. The museum is a must - just amazing but I always regret not doing the garden tour too. xx
Such an amazing place with so much to see! And your meals look so yummy, too. Were you exhausted at the end of each day? I can definitely see why you didn't get to do any stitching!
