Getting Back in the Saddle - Italy Part 1

Hello, Friends!

Things are slowly getting back to normal after our trip to Italy, my trip to Alabama and a visit from our daughter and her little family. That has been September so far.

I did a fairly good job of journaling our Italy trip, but I’ll only share a quick overview on the blog. There would be too many photos and words…I imagine you would glaze over before getting halfway through such a post. I'll break this into parts so I won't take too much of your time at once.
Our flight departed Asheville at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 30th and we connected through Chicago O’Hare. Our next flight was scheduled to depart at 3:50 pm, but due to the incoming plane having an emergency on-board, we were delayed two hours. It wasn't a bother as we flew business and that allowed us to spend time in United’s newly renovated Polaris Lounge. If you follow me on Instagram, then you likely saw the photos I shared there.

We arrived Rome at 10:30 am on Sunday morning. It was a breeze getting through passport control and our luggage came off the plane rather quickly also. Our driver was waiting and it didn’t take long to get to our hotel. The trip from the airport to the hotel reminded me of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disney. Am I aging myself?

Sunday, August 31st

Our Home in Rome
Boutique Hotel Campo de Fiori

Market in Campo de Fiori
Operating in this piazza since 1869
Located right outside of our hotel during the day

We ate well throughout our trip
Prosciutto and melon are my favorite!

Spent the day wandering around Piazza Navona
So many beautiful churches and we went inside every one that we could
Sant' Agnese in Agone

Obelisco Agonale

Cobblestone Streets

Beautiful architecture throughout the city

Museo di Roma

Huge doors!

Nightime views from our hotel
Saint Peter's Basilica

Victor Emmanuel II Monument

Monday, September 1st

The Pantheon

Fountain of the Pantheon

Trevi Fountain
It gets drained and cleaned each Monday
We'll come back another day

Climbed the Spanish Steps

Largo di Torre Argentina
Remains of Republican Era Temples and Pompey's Theatre
Said to be where Julius Caesar was murdered
Walked across the Tiber River to Trastevere
Laundry Day for someone
Hubby's first of many gelato
The piazza that hosts the Campo de Fiori Market during the day
transforms into a bustling area filled with restaurants
and street entertainment at night
Statue of Giordano Bruno which is hidden
by the market during the day
Enjoying an appertivo al fresco

I think that is enough for today.

More to come...

I love your travelogue!! The vines on your hotel are gorgeous. I can't imagine walking in a place with such ancient history. So your husband liked gelato - lol I would gain so much weight on a trip like that. You both look very relaxed and happy, so glad you got to make the trip. Please give us more pics! :D
