It is official! Even though it has been a well-known fact for over a year, at least at work, I am trading the corporate office for a home office. My resignation letter has been filed and I am two weeks away from a four-week vacation. I start my new position on April 1st!
I'll still be working full time but will have flexibility with my schedule. It will require traveling about once or twice per month but it is to Old Town Alexandria, VA. How bad can that be?
Perhaps I will blog more than once a month which has been the average lately J
It is Slow Sunday Stitching over at Kathy’s Quilts. My project for today is a very special one. A dear friend from high school lost his Dad last year and his Mom is making him a memory quilt using his Dad’s blue jeans and shirts. He sent me a piece of denim and asked if I would make the ‘center’ block for the quilt. He wants the quilt to be a tribute to his Dad. If that isn’t enough pressure (LOL), his Mom is an expert HAND piecer and quilter.
His Dad loved to fish. My friend would often say “Pop caught fish today….Fortunate”, so I am naming the block “Fortunate.”
My block is machine pieced but I will hand stitch the applique’. The design is one of the blocks from Kaaren Johnston's "Camp Wilderness" pattern. The water and cornerstones are from the denim I was given. I can't wait to see it in the finished quilt.
Are you slow stitching today? Pop over to Kathy's to see what others are working on...always a lot of eye candy.
Perfect centre block for this memory quilt. Good use for the denim!
Congrats on your job changes, I hope you enjoy working from home and not having to commute everyday! Love the block you made. Hugs!
What a wonderful way to remember a loved one. It is a beautiful block. Congrats on your job change!
Are you going to be working for a different company? I hope that you will enjoy working from home. I never had that kind of job that could be done from home. From talking to some people that have worked from home, they really liked it but did say they ended up working more hours than if they had gone to the office each day.
Good luck with your new position! So nice that you can work from home except for a couple of trips. Old Town Alexandria should be fun to visit! Love what you have done with the denim!
Darling block -- I loved the backstory behind your name for it! Old Town is fun -- you should enjoy your travels there! :)
The very best in you position. Wishing you joy and happiness. Love the block and the story. The family will love it.
No kidding....that is pressure, but you did an awesome job!

The job change sounds wonderful. Enjoy the month off, I am afraid it will pass too quickly. The quilt block is a pure delight as a tribute to a fisherman.

What a wonderful idea for the center medallion for your friend's memory quilt! Congrats on the transition from one work life to another. I work from home, and although I'm often frustrated with my job, I wouldn't trade the flexibility working from home offers!
