Our Holidays and the New Sewing Machine

I hope you are enjoying your holiday season.  We were blessed to have both of our children home at the same time.  Our sailor son was home for two weeks and our daughter is on college break.  Since I’m not sure when this will happen again, I baked everyone’s favorites.

 Buckeyes

Tea Cups

Aunt Sarah’s Chocolate Cake

Miss Lou’s Pound Cake

My mom made Sand Tarts

We did a lot of eating and visiting.  It was very sad leaving our son at the airport Friday. We hope to visit him in San Diego next March, during our daughter’s spring break.  It will depend on his ship’s schedule…keeping fingers crossed that he will not be underway then.  His ship is scheduled to relocate to Japan mid-year.

Thank you to everyone who provided guidance with regard to a portable sewing machine.  I quickly made a decision and took some of my Christmas money to make a purchase.

Since I recently had a problem with my main machine and was without it for over a month, I could not imagine dealing remotely with a seller.  I decided to buy from someone who is close to home in case I need repairs.  That limited me to either a Brother, Babylock, Janome or Pfaff.  I wanted something that is lightweight yet durable since its primary purpose is to take to classes.

I was very interested in a Janome but the local dealer did not have the model I wanted to see and it was a bit more expensive than the Pfaff I chose.

Pfaff Passport 2.0

It features an integrated dual feed system (IDT) which is basically a built-in walking foot.  I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with this feature.

The IDT is very easy to disengage if you do not need it.

It offers more stitches than I will ever use.

My main machine is also an embroidery machine which means it is very heavy and too expensive to be carting around.

At just over 12 pounds, the Pfaff will serve the purpose.  Oh...and it was ON SALE!!!!

I’ll be back soon to show you the project I am making to test the new Pfaff.  It has me seeing dots…that is a good thing J

Enjoy the last few days of 2014!

How sweet to have both your children home for Christmas. All your goodies look so tasty. What exactly are sand tarts? Nice new machine. I know you will make some beautiful things with it! Fingers crossed that you will be able to see your son in San Diego in March. Sounds like fun! Have a blessed Sunday afternoon.

Hugs, Vicky

I am from Ohio, the Buckeye State and have never had a Buckeye cookie. I really should try one.

I find your Pfaff very interesting. My back-up full size machine is a Pfaff that I purchased about 20 years ago. It has the built in dual feed and I like that. What I find interesting is the weight of your machine. Let us know how you like sewing on the machine.

Congrats on having the family together for Christmas! I took my Pfaff into the repair shop a couple of weeks before Christmas and the sewing machine repair guy was singing the praises of the machine you bought. I trust him and have been very happy with my own Pfaff, so I think you picked a winner!

How nice that everyone was home, Jeanna! It looks as though you made it a very memorable one for all :>) I've been making Buckeyes for nearly 50 years! They're one of my favorites! Congratulation on your new machine! I hear the dual feed makes perfect seams! Can't wait to see your work!
Cheers!

I have never used a Pfaff but I hear that they are good machines. I hope you enjoy using it.
My big Janome has the built in walking foot but honestly, I never use it.
