WOW! Lots and lots of blog lovin’ has come my way
since the first post only 3 days ago! I
am overwhelmed by Karen’s kind words and Candace’s willingness to display my
button on her blog. Due to their
generous support I instantly gained many friends.
Everyone
has given me a warm welcome into blogland.
I have discovered so many places to visit for inspiration and I’ve
learned so much already! I’ve made new friends
from all over the world and even a new one right here where I live. Suzy from Sunshine and Lollipops and I will
be getting together for coffee soon!
I
believe I responded to all of your wonderful comments. For
those that were “no reply” , please know that I appreciate you stopping
by and giving me words of encouragement.
Now,
down to business…
Let’s
just say I’m still on a huge learning curve when comes to taking good
photos. I’m using my DD’s Canon T2i
which is pretty dummy proof (that’s what I need) but I realize there just aren’t
good ‘display’ options around here for photographing quilts. That is something I will have to work on.
Since
I know so many of you are watching and are willing to hold me
accountable for completing my UFOs, I finished a graduation gift J
This
is my DD’s special someone and he graduated with her a
couple of weeks ago. I made him a Senior Year memory quilt and I’ll have
to say that I am disappointed in the printable fabric I chose. The package read 100% cotton so I expected it
to be softer. It’s colorfast quality is
great!
Can
you recommend a good printable fabric? I
would love to make another one… perhaps one larger than a wall hanging so it
will need to be cuddle-worthy J
In
2010, I surprised my DS with his graduation quilt (below). The pattern is Shoeboxes from Atkinson
Designs.
And
DD knows that Mom would be fair and do the same for her this year. Therefore, I allowed her to choose her pattern
and fabric. She chose Butterfly Trails,
again from Atkinson Designs. Their patterns are so easy to follow.

Since
the quilt wasn’t her surprise gift, there
was no hurry to finish before graduation.
I
know this is crazy…inserting photos AND ‘linking up’ for the first time in the
SAME post, but I did!

What a cool idea for a quilt! This type of quilt is definitely added to my to do list.
I have no idea about a the fabric for pictures, but I am very interested. I will most likely shamelessly copy your idea for my children. Oldest son is a junior this coming year, so I have a year to learn quilting basics and plan ahead. I think your quilt looks great!

Wow, you already have more followers than I do and I have been in blogland for about a year! LOL...I was just looking at the printable fabrics yesterday as my daughter is graduating and I thought I would put a memory quilt together too but had no clue
which paper to buy. Your memory quilt turned out so nice--such a thoughtful gift! Linda

Hi, Jeanna. I use Jacquard's Inkjet Fabric Sheets for making quilt labels. I used to buy it at Michael's, but they no longer carry it at my local store. So I now purchase it through Amazon. They also make a silk product. Would that be softer? Hope you find one you like. Your quilts are real treasures.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome I'm glad you joined us all in blogland! You will soon have numerous new friends and I do mean...friends! Even though I haven't met most in person...I have some best buds! I've been blogging 6 years and still love it (when I get the time) I was going to ask about your blog name but just read your first entry...makes perfect sense! As for the fabric to use for photos through the printer...there are so many brands out there it is hard to say which is the preferred. Maybe you can visit Jill at The Quilt Rat blog and ask her...she is such an artist and talent and I think she may give you the insight you need.

I'm so happy you're coming into blogland with a bang, Jeanna! I was shocked and happy to see how many comments you got on your first post - way to go! Love the quilt you made for your daughter's friend! I've not printed on fabric but someone I know who does recommends Printed Treasures. Looks like you've gotten a lot of great advice! LOVE the fabrics you used for your son't quilt and also your daughter's color choices! Terry's patterns are a lot of fun to sew, too!

One of the most amazing parts of blogging is that it is worldwide. Love your photo quilt. I have made several over the years. The first for my niece who was going away to college. Hers was comprised of pictures of the family so she could take us all with her. The latest one I made I used Tee Shirt Transfer, not soft and cuddly at all but should hold up to washings.

Hi Jeanna! I'm a follower, came over from Karen's and I'm glad I did! I haven't made picture quilts in a while but when I did I would take my pics to the local printer and he would make iron on transfers for me. Pic quality wasn't always great. They can't do it anymore due to the change in copiers. Your pictures look great though. Do you think it would soften up with repeated washing?

Hi Jeanna! Welcome to BlogLand! I am also a Southerner (from SC)but across the Big Pond in Switzerland now. I have a client who just used those Printed Treasures sheets & the ink ran. Just be careful & test first. My favourite product to transfer photos is the Bubble Jet Set solution. You soak the fabric you want to transfer to in the solution for 5 mins. Take out, let dry & iron onto pieces of wax paper cut to the size you need. Run through your printer, let dry & that's it. I heat set it again but it's never given me any problems. Fabric is never stiff. I tend to use a cotton sateen for the fabric but have even used silk (that frays alot though). Just let me know if you have any questions. I'm happy to help! :-)

Your photo quilt is beautiful! What a very special gift. I'm sure he will treasure it. I don't think I would recommend the silk sheets for a quilt- not sure how they would stand up to wear and tear and laundering. And they DO fray...I think the cotton choices are a better bet.
